Thanks and Congratulations Betsy!

Amber and I both feel that knowing you and having you as a friend has truly made us better people. On a personal level, your kindness and friendship have always meant a great deal to us.

From a professional standpoint, there has never been a stronger advocate for the Florida sod growers than you. You took the Sod Growers Cooperative when it was just getting started and turned it into a powerful voice for our industry—most of the time carrying the load as a one-woman working machine... Betsy retiring is like Santa Claus retiring – it’s just unthinkable! And yet it is
certainly understandable and a cause for celebration and gratitude.

It really wasn’t too hard to think of ways to describe Betsy in her tenure with FSGC/TPF:

  • Leader
  • Planner
  • Creator/Communicator
  • Warrior
  • Friend

As a leader, Betsy was an inspiration, and those of us who were lucky enough to be part of her troops regarded her with fierce loyalty... (continued)

A Message From
Robert “Jamie” Tedder

As the current President of the Turfgrass Producers of Florida (TPF), it is my honor to recognize and celebrate Ms. Betsy McGill for her extraordinary contributions to our industry.

The word dedication is defined as "being committed to a particular task or purpose." That definition has been the foundation for Betsy’s leadership over the past 23 years. Since 2003, Betsy has been the steady hand guiding our growth—expanding our membership, strengthening vendor support, and championing industry advocacy. While her administrative talents are vast, her true formula for success has always been the ability to build and sustain meaningful relationships... (continued)

A Message From

For nearly 30 years, Betsy McGill has been the driving force behind the Florida turfgrass industry as the Executive Director of the Turfgrass Producers of Florida. I vividly remember meeting her for the first time—poised, in a blue dress and high heels—and wondering how she would fit in among a group of farmers. Betsy quickly shattered any doubts, becoming our ultimate organizer, negotiator, and at times, "cat-herder."

Betsy’s leadership and organizational skills were truly the backbone of the organization. Without her, the Turfgrass Producers of Florida likely would not have reached its current level of significance or successfully navigated past uncertainties. Thanks to her, we now stand strong and inspired... (continued)

Congratulations on your retirement! You are very deserving, and I look forward to seeing what you accomplish in your new phase of life. I remember the first time we met. It was my first FSGC event. I introduced myself and your reaction set the stage for Florida becoming my home. You were kind and welcoming to me, this newcomer to UF and Florida. You told me how happy everyone was to have me at the University. It was more than a “Hello.” It was personal, like you already knew me... (continued)
