The University of Virginia uses Latitude 36 Bermudagrass on multiple different fields including football’s Scott Stadium.  The choice was made because of the unique geography of Charlottesville, Virginia.  The city sits close to cool season turf areas like bluegrass and warm season areas where you find grasses like bermudagrass.  Latitude 36 worked out for them because, as a warm season grass, it has the cold tolerance and longer seasons that were demanded by the turf management staff.

“There are some other good cold tolerant varieties out there that we don’t feel have the aesthetics and maybe even the playability that we want…Latitude 36 provides a great playing surface. It has the ability to bounce back from colder winters, better.”
