Check out this video above which highlights CitraZoy®, Florida’s premium zoysiagrass.
Last month, Sod Solutions exhibited alongside the University of Florida at the 2022 Landscape Show in Orlando. With both CitraBlue® and CitraZoy grass samples on display at the show, as well as a CitraZoy plug giveaway, the booth was heavily attended and many potential customers stopped by to learn about the new turfgrass varieties released from UF.
Earlier this year, Sod Solutions held a CitraZoy growers meeting on April 12, 2022 at JW Turf Farms. Twelve of the 16 licensed turfgrass producers attended the meeting. At the meeting, UF turfgrass breeder Dr. Kevin Kenworthy and Mark Kann from Sod Solutions shared Best Management Practices (BMPs) for CitraZoy production.
Christian Broucqsault provided an update on the CitraZoy program, including progress on marketing plans; he also explained the updated quality control guidelines.
As of April 12, there were 31 acres of CitraZoy in production at six farms:
- A Duda – La Belle
- JW Turf Farms
- King Ranch
- RB Farms
- Star Farms
- Willaway Sod
Since the growers meeting, an additional 26 acres have been planted at three more farms ( A Duda – Lake Placid, McCalls, and Floriturf) and this fall, further expansion is planned by those with initial plant stock that has grown in.
Over the past two months, Mark Kann and Tommy Lineberger of Sod Solutions have traveled throughout Florida visiting Authorized Distributors with plug trays of CitraZoy. This was successful in showcasing CitraZoy to potential distributors as well as to educate them on the improved characteristics of this new zoysiagrass. They explained that this new turfgrass was designed for the Florida market and in total visited numerous Authorized Distributors.
