Public Comment Period Now Open for U.S. Sod Checkoff Program

The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) has initiated a public comment period for the proposed U.S. Sod Checkoff Program, welcoming input from producers and interested parties. This period, open from Oct. 16 until Dec. 15 2023, presents an opportunity to provide feedback on key aspects of the proposed program.

If you are in favor of or opposed to the proposed U.S. Sod Checkoff Program, you must express either your support or opposition to the program before Dec 15. If there are an insignificant number of comments received by the deadline, the USDA could decide it is not worth their department’s limited time and resources to bring the matter to a vote.

How to Participate?

There are two significant areas open for public comment:

  1. The Program Itself: The full text of the proposal, along with instructions for providing public comment on the program itself is available online here.

  2. Referendum Procedures: Input is sought on the procedures outlined for conducting an industry-wide vote. The “Referendum Public Comment Period” link, accessible online here, provides details for submitting comments and feedback.

Get Involved

This period serves as an opportunity for producers and concerned individuals to participate in shaping the U.S. Sod Checkoff Program. All comments will be accepted and considered until the deadline of Dec. 15.
